The coffee itself is a blend of Arabica Bourbon and Robusta varieties, grown at elevations between 1,500 and 2,500 meters. Thanks to the region’s fertile volcanic soil, the coffee is known for its smooth texture and complex flavor profile.
The project is also deeply linked with conservation efforts. By engaging former poachers and locals whose livelihoods depended on forest resources, Gorilla Highlands Coffee has helped reduce pressure on the habitats of endangered mountain gorillas. Revenues from coffee production have also funded educational and healthcare projects, fostering a more sustainable coexistence between communities and wildlife.
